Hmmm as for the movie... I don't think it will have the same impact if you haven't seen the show. If you've watched the show, you're already in love with the characters and can just let the action wash over you. But if you haven't, you'll have to really pay attention to understand who everyone is. So if you can, I would highly recommending watching at least the first episode of the show before you see the movie, just to get the characters' names, personalities, and relationships down. You're not a Firefly fan are you? Because just to warn you, that's my current major obsession so a lot of my posts are about it (and Serenity, the movie). Soooo yes, beware. But, pretty! So can you blame me? *grin*

Okay. So Firefly is a TV show done by Joss Whedon (who did Buffy and Angel). It's about the crew of a beat up old spaceship who fly around doing various jobs and getting into various kinds of trouble. There are no aliens, only human colonized planets, and many of them are not very civilized so there are horses and cowboy hats and guns and such. It's very witty, entertaining, and intense. I'm sure you'd love it :D And now there's a movie out, Serenity, that's based on the show (which was canceled after half a season because Fox is stupid) and I've seen it twice and absolutely loved it. So yes. Obsession. :)

I meant uncivilized in the sense that they don't have huge cities with shiny buildings. They live like the old west, and there's nothing wrong with that, just gives it all a cool rustic feel. Also, they're "uncivilized" in that they resist the rule of the "Alliance," which is the domineering government that controls the center planets.
