Another poem! Honestly, I wish I could actually write poetry this good :P I think it's rather hilarious though when Avenged Sevenfold is followed by Mandy Moore! Also, FOB is terrible for this meme, lol.

Touch

I'll stand for nothing less
Sitting alone in the dark of a stadium
When our time is up
Come on come on

You told me on your birthday
Cut open this madness too blind to see
Well I put so much thought in the getting ready
My words confuse you

Gonna make a mistake, gonna do it on purpose
Reaching out for something

So I run and hide, tear myself apart
House is haunted
She comes to me in dreams, trainwreck beauty queen
I'm your life, I'm the one who takes you there

Pay close attention
I can't shake this feeling from my head
I'm sleeping my way out of this one
I'll take anything now

Crawling in my skin
Louder louder, the voices in my head

A poem. First lines of first 20 songs on shuffle.

She's a cool blonde scheming bitch
Who do you think you are?
I heard you driving in my car

Seventeen and strung out on confusion
A dark congregation of familiar faces
You little creep, that's what she said

If I fell in love with you
My story starts the day they said "She can't be found"
Let me ask you, have you heard of my religion?

Facetiously fiction
If you lose your faith babe you can have mine
Please remember nights that we spent

Now it's time to wrap our fears in the night
Do you wanna run away together?
When the time is right and the night is bright

It's nice to see you again
Fall into you, is all I seem to do
Shadows are my friends

When I'm back from the road then you're out on it
Well it rains and it pours when you're out on your own

Top 10 Albums, with minimal commentary and in no particular order

1. My Chemical Romance - Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge. This is THE album for me. Seriously.

2. Foo Fighters - There Is Nothing Left To Lose

3. Stone Temple Pilots - Shangri La Di Da

4. The Hush Sound - Goodbye Blues

5. The Beatles - Revolver

6. The Used - Lies for the Liars

7. David Bowie - Hunky Dory

8. Linkin Park - Hybrid Theory

9. Michelle Branch - Hotel Paper

10. Green Day - Dookie. My favorite album when I was 6, and still a classic <3

This list is pretty evenly split between albums that make me think of endless hours spent commuting to and from school in the car with my dad, from age 5 to 18, and bandom bands. *hands* The exception is Michelle Branch, which is just an album that has always touched me for no explicable reason. And yes, my dad rocked the Linkin Park. I love my daddy.

Runners up: Marc Teamaker, Lust for Wanda (my dad's bassist and my piano teacher - this is a gorgeous album), Evanescence, Fallen; Christina Aguilera self-titled; Feeder, Comfort in Sound; K's Choice, 10.

Just a quick little post before sleepies.

I have SPN downloaded but have not yet watched! I never got back to my live-watching schedule after Dublin, especially since I don't, uh, actually have TV in my apartment! I hear good things though :)

I'm reading papers my putative PhD advisor has published, and it's actually really encouraging. I'm reading her methods section and finding that I have first hand experience with almost everything she's doing. There's a huge organic synthesis component, and I'm VERY familiar with that, since it's the major subject of my independent and summer research thus far. There's also protein purification and assay, which I've done in my biochem class this semester, albeit not very extensively, but I have experienced it! Then she does drug tests in rats, and while I haven't done that, I have worked with live rats (which were then, um, not live so I could study their intestinal veins...) during my summer at Michigan State University. This makes me realize how truly blessed I am with the extent of experience I've been exposed to as an undergraduate, and actually really excited to move forward with this PhD!

My friend Brad sent me a Youtube link to a S Club 7 video. LOLZ. 90s flashbacks!!! The dancing is SO LOLAWFUL. Heeeee.

Still minorly addicted to Britney. Send help.

Bandom was fairly AWESOME today. Northern Downpour video -> precious AND beautiful. I spent most of it wanting to molest country-boy Bden or tell Ryan to stop squinting :P Bob Bryar's blog -> MADE OF WIN AND PUPPIES. Actually, hilariously, his writing style reminded me a lot of Dara's. BUT ANYWAY. New puppy! He shot up his garage and it was fun! BOB BRYAR WHAT. His faaaace. I love how he was going to tell us about the other boys but then, like, doesn't feel like it. AHAHA. Ilhim lots, not gonna lie. I CANT WAIT FOR THESE BOYS TO BE IN OUR LIVES EVERY DAY AGAIN. The texting updates are going to be ENDLESS FOUNTS OF JOY AND LULZ, I can just tell!! <33333 (Frank is going to be LETHAL with that, ahahaha.)

ETA: AND what might be the BEST TAI TV EVERRRRR. Fan-written BODYSWAP. Bill and Sisky! NOMG! THE PRECIOUSES. And Travis of WTK tells them the secret! I AM LOLING SO HARD. Bill and Sisky's FAAAAACES. Hahahaha boooooys <3

Obama continued to be DEEPLY AWESOME. And McCain continued to ride the failtrain into the sunset. Highlights:
  • Rachel Maddow interviews Obama. I REALLY love how he comes across here. Rachel pushes the flaming liberal thing a bit, and he brings it back to the middle with sense, compassion and extremely intelligent assessment of the state of our country. He doesn't want to alienate the entire Republican party because it's NOT the whole party at fault. It's a "incompetent subset" that has "kidnapped the party". And to a large extent he's right. It's for just this reason that he's been able to cross party lines everywhere - he didn't start out partisan. He started out American. I LOVE HIM SO MUCH.
  • McCain rally in Ohio a pretty spectacular faceplant. For one thing: 4,000 of the 6,000 in attendance had to be bussed in from surrounding schools. !!! And for another, McCain calls on Joe the Plumber to stand up.... but he's not there! WHOOOOPS! It's hilarious, go watch!

And FiveThirtyEight.com continues to rock my socks, but that's not news :) Lots of nasty stuff flying around, but that's to be expected. Obama seems to be largely rising above!

FIVE DAYS.

Hai guys! Some time ago I downloaded some stuff by Anberlin and I'm kind of in love with it. But sadly, I only have about half of their most recent album. I want moaaaar! I figure SOMEONE on my flist has to have it. Anyone willing to share? *puppy eyes*

I'm going to WARPED tomorrow, omg!! Does anyone have any recommendations of who I MUST see? Right now my list looks like this:

Cobra Starship
The Academy Is...
Gym Class Heroes
Say Anything
Anberlin
Charlotte Sometimes
Against Me!
Mayday Parade
We The Kings
and Angels and Airwaves if possible

Comments? Opinions? Suggestions?

OMG WARPED YAY :D

(I totally did not just start drinking the bottle of Jack Daniels we've got sitting around by myself. You can't prove anything! (I MISS going out on weekends. D:))

1. Reply to this post and I'll assign you a letter.
2. List (and upload, if you feel like it) 5 songs that start with that letter.
3. Post them to your journal with these instructions.

[livejournal.com profile] autobearography gave me B!

1. Believe! - Empires. She's gonna fall from me / And the wind's gonna catch her
One of my favorites off Howl. I couldn't exactly say why, just yet, but I love it.

2. Break the Sky - The Hush Sound. I'll break the sky / for you and I are going nowhere / kiss goodbye / a dozen times before we get there
Just a beautiful song, one of the best examples of Greta's smoky new sound. Mmm.

3. Burn, Burn - Lostprophets. Burn burn the station / (burn it down) / Burn burn the truth / (enjoy the flames) / In celebration / (burn it down) / For us, for them, for you
This is easily one of their best songs, just an awesome straight up rock song, driving and energetic. It always gets my blood pumping. I've gotten completely addicted to these guys, so you should download this song and then ask me for the rest of the album when you love it :D

4. Blue and Yellow - The Used. It's a feeling that you cannot miss / And it burns a hole through everyone that feels it
The Used is a very odd band, I find, with songs that verge on the absurd (Liar, Liar), lots of frenzied awesome rock, and then these... ballads. But I love it all, and this is one of their prettiest songs. Easily my favorite off of the first album.

5. Beauty Bar - Justin King. It feels like walking in a sleepless dream / Oh my feet touched just above the ground
If you download any of these, please make it this one. Justin King is a fantastic guitarist/singer/songwriter, and I fell for him when [livejournal.com profile] darksylvia started talking about him. I got to see him play live back in PA and WOW. He and his band are just fucking phenomenal. You should also listen to this and then ask me for the rest. I haven't been keeping up with him, so as far as I know he has one EP and one demo, but they're both fantastic. This is off the demo, actually. And I love it.

Can exams be over now?

Well that was interesting! Who else thinks Thursday named that song that so that it would always be at the top of any alphabetical list? Haha.

Random bit of bandom adorable - so I was watching The Cab be precious, as you do, and Marshall was wearing a black asymmetrical zip up jacket that looks just like Mikeyway's, so that was exciting in and of itself, but THEN Singer goes, "You look like Gerard Way in the Black Parade! It's cool though!" HEEEE! I about DIED. Little fanboys! Myheart!

Here's the video, just because their cuteness is always worth seeing. And yes, I am a complete convert, why do you ask? I can't wait for the album!

I just reached 30,000 plays on my last.fm. O.O

Whee! *throws confetti*

(And that's just since August 2006, which is when I get this laptop. It blows my mind when I realize how much of my life I spend listening to music. That's approximately 70 days straight of music! Over two months out of 18! Geez.)

My thirty thousandth song was Innocent and Sweet by The Cab. I meant to make it my favorite MCR song, but my attention wandered and I didn't catch it in time, whoops. Instead Heaven Help Us was my 30,001st song! :)

In the music vein, I've downloaded so so much new music over the past weeks or so, and it's kind of overwhelming! In order to really get into something and make an opinion on it, I have to listen to it REPEATEDLY, because I never *just* sit and listen to music, I'm always always doing something else, so it takes a lot of repeats for anything to really sink in. I'm afraid I won't be able to give everything it's due consideration.

For curiosity's sake, the new music I've downloaded/received includes:

Incubus - A Crow Left of the Murder (LOVE this, so far)
The Frames - The Cost
Say Anything - In Defense of the Genre and Is A Boy/Was A Boy (Courtesy of my brother, who totally has a crush on Max Bemis. Enjoyable, though probably not going to become a favorite.)
Jimmy Eat World - Chase This Light (Again, enjoyable, but not very different from their other stuff. I do like their sound though.)
The Once soundtrack
Tom McRae - Tom McRae (Ugh, I love him SOMUCH. I'm so glad I got to see him live.)
Thursday - Full Collapse
The Cab - Glitz and Glamour

See? I'm so overwhelmed! *flails a little* I just keep coming back to MCR. *shameface* The only band that has managed to insinuate itself significantly in my listening patterns is The Used, and even then I only listen to them on shuffle in a playlist with all of MCR's stuff. MAYBE I'M OBSESSED? WHO KNOWS.

(I enjoy this mood icon. *stares*)
exsequar: (Girlyrock - Gabe hotass)

MCR has finally passed 1000! Hooray! Now, these totals are by no means representative of my music listening habits overall - I registered in April, saw the Honda Civic Tour in June, and have not listened to practically anything but Decaydance/MCR ever since. So. Extremely skewed! (And also does not take into account the many years I spent listening to FOB before that, oh man, and the time in 2006 when Panic! was one of my favorite bands) But still fun to look at.

I think I have something stuck way up under my eyelid and it's annoying the crap out of me. Augh. Also I spent all today having a stabbing headache just over my left ear - AWESOME. On the plus side, lectures were good - I really think I'm going to enjoy my European Societies class, not least because I feel like I don't know much about Europe at all, and now I'm learning! The many comparisons that can be summarized as "the USA sucks" are amusing in a bitter kind of way. There are so many things that America is just RETARDED about, ugh. But anyway. I'm so relieved I squeezed something that isn't chemistry into my schedule, because it's a really welcome breath of fresh air for my overwhelmed brain.

Talking to my daddy completely makes my day. Why yes I am 8 years old. But hi, watch me not care, because I ♥ my daddy more than the WORLD. Or something.

I think Simon is ignoring my texts. Which, um. Kind of sucks. I feel really bad now. I wonder if he thinks I'm trying to avoid seeing him? Which I'm not! I'm really not. I want to give him a chance and I think we'd have a lot of fun. But... we can't, if he doesn't answer my texts :-/

I went to Penneys, which is the super cheap ass department store here, and I got two pairs of adorable flats, a pair of sweatpants, a lovely blue scarf, and a couple other odds and ends - for 30 euro! (~$40, keep in mind that Dublin is SUPER EXPENSIVE) Yes, that was two pairs of shoes listed up there! Awesome.

Things Wot Are Awesome: HOORAY THE COBRA!!!!! and Hi I'm Gabe, I'm a dummmy. Ahahah COBRA CHILDREN. SO PRESH. <3333

Now I'm gonna go watch the new Heroes, hurrah!
