exsequar: (BBM moment in time)
I just thought I'd share that we're reading Brokeback Mountain in my Experimental Fiction class! OMGYAY. I'm going to bring in my gorgeous little copy with Heath and Jake on it and people are going to give me sidelong glances and I will LOVE MY GAY cOWBOYS.

I love college.

ETA: As Sara just reminded me, our Professor for the same class mentioned that she's going to try to get Neil Gaiman to come to our campus. NEIL GAIMAN. That would be amazing.

Yes, I saw BBM. Yes, I loved it. No, I didn't cry - I have a feeling I don't cry nearly as much when there's someone with me, especially someone I barely know. But yes, it was sad anyways. A gorgeous, gorgeous film. I would post more thoughts, but it's nearly 2 AM and I'm getting up at 6:30ish, woohoo.

Which brings me to the main reason of this post. I'm off to Ohio on a plane in the morning! I don't think I'll have internet, at least not with any regularity, so alas, I am disappearing off the face of the LJplanet. *le sigh* I hope everyone has a WONDERFUL christmas or Hanukkah!! I will be back on the 30th. I love you all dearly! *hugs and kisses all round* (Sara, Michelle, Sarah, anyone else who has my number - feel free to call me!)

I am very happy right now, for one reason.

I found a gay guy to see Brokeback Mountain with!!!!

That's right ladies and gentlemen! (Well, ladies and one or two gentlemen) I get to be, for one night, a fag hag! Sweet!!!! Heehee. I am unreasonably excited about this. I sort of know this guy - I hung out with him at after prom last year, after my date had left (he had to go home, while I was sleeping at the place where the afterparty was) and he's just a really sweet guy. A total queen, but in an Emmett kind of way and therefore absolutely adorable. I don't know for sure that he's gay, but come on - would any straight guy cuddle their copy of Brokeback Mountain (the story) like it was their favorite toy? I didn't think so.

So, yes, I'm FINALLY seeing BBM TOMORROW! WHEEEEE!

In other news, I just got notified that my paid account expires in 10 days! YIKES. I knew it expired at the end of December, but psssh, December is ages away!....Oh wait, that's right, xmas is in four days. Whoops! :P

    Hee, this amuses me..

A couple entries ago, I mentioned that Michelle had bought BBM the short story at the bookstore. She said it was for her friend Sally. On Friday, we had our big Secret Santa revealing party, and guess what I got as my present... BBM! Hee! And the best part is, I had Michelle as my secret santee as well! Teehee. Sara had to keep it a secret from each of us, which she says was great fun. Yeah. The whole thing was fun :)

    I saw Rent again! Yay!

Very, very strangely, I did not cry. I teared up, during the saddest parts, but I didn't cry. I kept waiting for it to come, and it just wouldn't! Meanwhile, Sara was shaking, she was crying so hard. I felt it through the seat. And she just saw it yesterday! I have no idea... it was sooo weird. My theory is that, this time I was with Sara and Michelle, so we had been joking around for a while, so I was in a very upbeat mood. When I saw it the first time, I was alone, I had just walked half an hour in the cold, and was feeling very introspective and thoughtful. So I was very vulnerable and open to the emotional effects of it.

Nevertheless, I loved it again, of course! :)

In really great news, Brokeback Mountain averaged $38,000 per theater yesterday!! How ridiculously amazing is that? I'm SO excited for this movie. So so excited.

In bad news, my photoshop randomly stopped working. When I try to open it, the window opens and it loads and everything, but then once it's done the window just disappears. Imageready works, but when I try to move an image to Photoshop, it says could not do this because Photoshop is not responding. Argh. So I'm trying to download another PS with a torrent. But if anybody has any idea what's wrong, could you help?

I'm watching the first Harry Potter, and it's so cute. I am such a total and complete HHr shipper now, it's ridiculous. I pay attention to them without even meaning to.

I nearly had a heart attack when I saw that Brokeback Mountain isn't playing at my local theater back home. Seriously, there were tears. But then I did a "within 40 miles" search and there's an independent theater in Stamford (half an hour away... I went to school there, so it's fine) playing it on the 16th and beyond. YAY. The only thing is that I don't know how I'm going to get someone to take me to see it, and then see it by myself. Damn. This would be a really good time to have a license, Anne :P

Yesterday, Michelle and I were shopping at the campus bookstore for X-mas presents. She bought BBM the short story (they now have it in a book on its own... it's really pretty) and the lady behind the counter was like "huh! I didn't know this was a short story." and then we proceeded to talk about it, how she really really wants to see it, and all sorts of things. It was really exciting. She's a sweet woman, I sort of know her because she's in my office a lot at work, and it was really cool to find this out about her. Sometimes people can be cool :)

A wonderful, thoughtful, intelligent and incisive article about Brokeback Mountain and the picture of Americana that it presents, along with the assertion that the movie is equating sex with love, which is actually a really good point. I highly recommend it, BUT, there are HUGE SPOILERS for the short story, so if you haven't read it, don't read the article, I beg you.

A random, late night entry. We'll do list format.

  • A Brokeback Mountain article posted over at [livejournal.com profile] wranglers: http://www.livejournal.com/community/wranglers/141522.html?mode=reply It's from Vogue and has a GORGEOUS new picture, and the article is brief but thoughtful and lovely. I really, really can't wait for this movie.

  • I just watched the Angel S1 episodes Five by Five and Sanctuary. Wow. WOW. My Faith love has returned full force! I was really really obsessed with her for a while (she's the only character in any fandom that gets an individual icon folder on my hard drive - now that's love) but once I sort of drifted away from Buffy, she slipped to the back of my mind (as did the music video I have half finished, alas). But watching these two episodes... she just blows my mind! And this pair of eps in particular epitomizes Faith - in one, you have snarky, badass Faith who's kicking ass and taking names, but then you have angsty, guilt-ridden, conflicted Faith who is just... so pathetic you want to cuddle her. Or at least I do. And I've watched a lot of Faith's stuff from season 3 and such many many times, and sometimes Eliza's acting isn't the *best*, but I think by these eps she's really got her game down. I clearly know what happens at the end of Five by Five, but I completely unexpectedly just started crying. It was that affecting. She's repeating her litany of "Just do it Angel, please, just do it..." and I'm waiting for it, waiting for it, and then... "Just kill me!" and I broke into tears! I just... wow. I feel so much for her. And I love that I can enjoy her badassness, which is just SO entertaining and sexy (yes, sexy) but then also empathize with her tortured soul. I LOVE HER. And I also love Angel for caring about her. Buffy is really, really, really a bitch in Sanctuary. Granted, she totally has the right to be, but it just pisses me off when she has this completely appalled look on her face when Angel punches her - as Angel says, "Not to go all schoolyard, but you hit me first." He totally has a point. She's like "WHAM - ow! You had no right to punch me you big meany!" *sighs and rolls eyes* But ANYway. My favorite part is when Angel comes down with the donuts and he sees Faith standing in the kitchen, and you only see her torso, and he's like "The first think you need to do is.. give me that knife." And then a second's pause before the camera pans down and we see that she is indeed holding a massive butcher's knife. And the music, very subtly, becomes ominous and creepy. It's just so perfectly done. I love that she doesn't say anything. I could talk on and on about this but I'm tired and this post is getting long. You know what? Maybe my refound complete adoration of her will incite me to finish this video! I'm so very proud of what I have so far, I just haven't felt motivated to get it done. Here's hoping!
