So a while ago I won two awards for my Supernatural S1 video "Blind" - Best Video and Best Drama at the Art of Vidding Awards. It was very exciting :D Now the site is having a "Best of the Best" round, and my vid is up against the winners in the same categories in all the rounds since! This time around, in addition to the judges' assessment, there's a poll that anyone can vote in, which is pretty darn cool.

So I thought I'd bring your attention to it :) I know that it takes a while to download and watch videos, so I suppose you could just vote for me if you wanted to be nice. HOWEVER, I am up against some of my favorite vidders, and LITERALLY my favorite music video, oh, EVER (Living Dead Girl - nnnnngh, SO GOOD), so I feel really silly asking you to vote for me when I honestly think they deserve it more.

So consider this as an offer to go watch dozens of really really beautiful videos and enjoy it and vote for whatever you think deserves it the most :)

RU stands for runner up, and in both categories I came second to [livejournal.com profile] ringwench's awesome Born to Kill vid, so I'm just so chuffed! The website has this to say about this round: "The calibre of entries was higher than it has ever been and the bar was raised for pretty much every category. Out of 54 submissions, 21 won core or specialized awards and 8 won discretionary awards." So I could not be any more proud of having come second in the biggest category *beams* Yaaaay! *bounces around*

If anyone missed my vid the first time around and wants to check it out, you can find it HERE. It's a Dean POV S1 vid, focused on how he relates to Sam. It's set to Blind by Placebo, which may as well have been written for the boys! I'd love any feedback if you do check it out :)

Yay!

*Does a happy dance* I submitted this vid to Zeppo Awards, a Buffyverse vid awards site, not expecting anything at all, and I get best vid runner up! *squees* That makes me so happy. And isn't the banner gorgeous?

Here's the rest of the winners if anyone wants to see: http://www.messyjessie.net/zeppo/Main.html

On a side note, I never ever tire of this Faith icon. It's happy, but it also has an undercurrent of darkness (from the text) that is so Faith, and the colors are effing gorgeous. *hearts it so much*

IfinishedIfinishedIfinished!!!! *bounces around spastically* It took me almost a year, but I DID IT! And I am very very proud of the finished product. I'd really appreciate if you all took a look at it. I also wrote up a lot of thoughts and commentary, those are optional though :P

Title: Alone and Colder
Vidder: Anne ([livejournal.com profile] starsouls1013)
Song: "No More Good Guys" by Skindive
Fandom: Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Seasons 3 and 4)
Character: Faith POV, with focus on her relationship with Buffy
Summary: Faith struggles internally between self-hate and a sense of betrayal by Buffy.
Disclaimer: Joss owns them. Obviously. I grovel at Joss’s feet for giving me this kind of material to work with.
Feedback: Is my bread and water. Seriously. I'd really love to know what you think!
A/N: I was really trying to say something about Faith with this video, about her inner turmoil and her complexity, so I think for a real understanding of this vid, you need to listen to the lyrics as you watch. It’s told from Faith’s mindset after the season four episode "Who Are You". Also, it's very important to recognize that a large portion of the video (at least half) uses footage from Faith's nightmares when she is in the coma. So if you haven't seen the show, all the times where Buffy is freaky and evil are in dreams, and Faith only gets stabbed once.
A/N2: Thank you so much to [livejournal.com profile] hermioneluna for a lovely beta job; she really saw the message I was trying to get across and helped me to perceive the video as a whole much more clearly. I’m not sure how many changes I actually made after talking to her (largely because this damn thing took me A YEAR and I was ready to be done with it already!) but she pointed out some really interesting things that I hadn’t even noticed. So thank you hun! :)
A/N3: A huge debt of gratitude is owed to [livejournal.com profile] heres_luck, whose stunning Faith video "Superstar" inspired me to start this one. Her written commentary especially taught me so many things both about the technical aspects of vidding and the complexities of Faith as a character. So lots of thanks to her, and I really recommend her vids to anyone.

I have much to say! All movie and book and TV related, because I am lame like that. The order of business, because this post got very complicated:
  • Faith video
  • Going to Borders and buying movies
  • Thoughts on Floating
  • Dark Angel
  • Pattern Recognition by William Gibson

First I have to announce that I FINISHED MY FAITH VIDEO!!!!! *dances about wildly* Do you know how happy this makes me??? Let me give you an idea. I put it off and promised myself I would finish it over spring break. Yes, I do mean the one that passed, oh, 8 months ago. So I've been working on this thing for literally a year, and FINALLY it's done. There are still a few small parts I need to tweak, but it's a whole product and I'm proud of it and YAY. Look for that in a few days :)

Today, I spent 2 hours in a Borders, all by myself. I've never gotten to do that before (I've always got family around pestering me to leave) and it was SO nice. They were having a 3 for 2 sale on all DVDs so clearly I spent a large portion of my time there. I also read the beginning of Interview With A Vampire, which was quite good - I'll have to finish it some time. This is what I bought (as compensation for the woeful amount of media I got for Christmas):
  • Reservoir Dogs
  • Fight Club (deluxe edition - Sean's gonna love me for that)
  • Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
  • The Lost official magazine, issue #2

And in one of my few fandomy real-life encounters, when I was checking out the guy at the counter said "Oh, they have a magazine?" and I was like "Yep! Are you a fan?" and he was like "Of course!" Then he talked about how he didn't like Michelle Rodriguez, haha. But it was quite cool. I'm excited to see Reservoir Dogs, and Fight Club is just a kickass movie.

Now for thoughts about Floating, a lovely, obscure little film that I highly recommend. First, some spoiler-free thoughts, because 95% of my flist hasn't seen this movie, so you wont be able to read the spoilers. But basically, in a nutshell, my thoughts consist of: Norman Reedus and slashliekomg. Norman. Ohhhh Norman. What to say about him. Which should I address first - talent, or looks? Hm. Well, in terms of talent, this boy has got some serious chops on him. He's got this intensity to him that makes him seem to vibrate even when he's just lounging around with his pals. His body language is devil-may-care, yet carefully controlled at the same time. He can convey so many levels of emotion, it's incredible. I have so much respect for him, and will definitely be picking up more of his movies.

As for his looks.... *THUD*. Seriously. This boy was a Prada model before he was an actor, and you can *totally* see why. He spends at least half of this movie either shirtless or in a tank top, and OMG. I've never seen such perfect arms. He's got muscles that are well-defined and powerful looking, yet also lean and lithe and graceful. They're perfectly toned and tanned and I want them. Guhhhh. I also love the tattoos all over him (quite familiar from Boondock Saints, because apparently they never cover up Norman's own tattoos) but find it quite amusing that even though they tried to turn the "Norman" on his chest into some swirly design, you can totally still see the N and parts of the other letters. Hee. Also, his mouth is, um, perfect, with that adorable mole giving him this great asymmetry. In conclusion - HE IS THE SEX.

As for slash - Norman's character, Van, finds this friend, Doug, and they become really close. Like, at a level that you would not ever expect of 19-year-old boys. Parts of it are just so homoerotic. The wrestling, half naked, in Doug's bedroom, and then the very physical "dancing" in a mosh pit at a club - totally metaphors for sex. And they have swimming races, which just, guh. And then on an emotional level, they connect so thoroughly - they just listen to eachother, also not something you'd expect of teenage boys. Further, spoilery thoughts... )

So yeah, I really loved this movie. I highly recommend it! Err, I just realized I didn't give the basic plot - Van's a teenager who had a great life, but his dad lost his legs in a car accident. His mom divorced his dad and then split, so now Van has to take care of his dad alone, and they moved into a cruddy house. So he didn't get to go to college with all of his friends, which is the main thing that eats at him through the film, the lack of direction in his life. It's really just a wonderful story, and I'd compare it to Life as a House, with the troubled (beautiful) young man struggling to find himself.

I watched the first episode of Dark Angel, and I think I'll hold off on judgement. So far, I'm not terribly impressed - the acting and writing could be better - but I'm definitely willing to give it a chance.

I also recently finished William Gibson's "Pattern Recognition," on a recommendation from my dad. It was great! Gibson has a fantastic writing style. I loved how utterly contemporary the story was - it centers around this online forum for discussing these mysterious bits of "footage" that have been leaked anonymously onto the internet. The main character is very active in this forum, and she's very internet and tech savvy. When she firsts meets someone, she asks "If I Google you, I'd get...?" which is just such an awesome question. I loved that I could totally identify and jibe with that whole attitude. The conclusion was compelling and satisfying. Just - what a great book. So now I've started "Mona Lisa Overdrive," also by Gibson, which is so far more weird but just as fascinating. I think I might have found a new author to love! :)

Hmmmm. Did anyone read all that? If so, I am stunned. Haha.
