Today is a good day!

I saw my friend Jake from high school for the first time in THREE YEARS. We were geek buddies in high school and continue to be geek buddies. He's awesome. We went bowling (I totally kicked his ass) and then got a pint of Guinness and chatted for a while. Om nom and yay :)

Then I met three of my oldest and wonderfulest high school friends, Sarah, Coryn, and Dana (I've known Dana since we were ten, oh the stories she can tell about me!). We hung out in an Irish pub for four hours just talking about everything, life and school and guys and sex and studying abroad and high school and the future and everything. It was ridiculously fun, I had a wonderful time. I used to be so antisocial - when I was around people too long, I would start to get restless and need to leave and be on my own again. But Dublin totally cured me of that and I just kept talking and talking and it was just wonderful.

Another glorious thing to happen to me today was this baby:

That's right, I'm typing now on my brand spanking new 15" MacBook Pro. OH MY GOD I LOVE IT SO MUCH. The screen is huge and sleek and BRIGHT, the speakers are deeply fantastic, the keyboard is EVEN nicer than on my Macbook, the body is smooth and shiny, and it's so goddamn fast! And I have 250 GB of hard drive space AHHHH! Unimaginable riches! I am so giddy and in love with my pretty new toy!

I was totally prepared to stick with my old Macbook (three years old) until it gave up the ghost, but my brother needed a computer for college (he hasn't had one in a while because by various means he has lost two different computers and my parents wouldn't get him another). He wanted to buy one with the money saved for him for college, but that's supposed to go towards tuition, and I was like well... I was considering buying one with the fellowship Michigan gave me, so he can have my old one? And my mom was like YES, do that, and so here I am, with my shiny new laptop whee! My mom paid for it but I'm going to repay her once I get my first paycheck from Michigan.

TL;DR -> SHINY = YAY. *twirls* Now I'm gonna give it a spin!

Apparently the answer to the chest pain mystery is C) None of the above (at least in terms of the guesses various people gave me, which included pneumonia, heartburn, and a bruised/strained bone or muscle). The answer is (drum roll please)... osteochondritis. Err, yeah. In layman's terms, that's an inflammation of the cartilege right where the two halves of the ribcage meet under the sternum, so when I breathed in and they moved together it really hurt. She said that it will go away of its own accord in a few days, and in the meantime to take ibuprofen to get the swelling down, and also not to focus too much on my breathing because that makes me breathe unnaturally and feel short of breath. It's apparently a strangely common condition for 20-somethings, which she doesn't quite understand.

I'm quite relieved, I must say! I took an Advil and feel much better now. Phew!

It's SO GORGEOUS here. Sunny and probably in the upper 60s - low 70s. Guhhhh so beautiful. And of course I have to sit inside and study D: D:

Amusingly, the girl sitting next to me in the computer lab just looked up Panic's But It's Better If You Do on youtube *g*

On a not so fun note, I called the laptop repair people and apparently they're trying to recover my data but 'it's not looking good' D: D: D: I just want my damn lab report! And my Ireland photos! *sniffles* The good news though is that the new hard drive will be covered by my warranty, so the only possible cost to me will be the data recovery.

By the way, Niall = most preciousest ever (he's wearing flowery board shorts today and I made so much fun of hm for looking like a surfer, hee) and Dara = funny and darling and as big of a text whore as I am, and James = a total sweetheart who met me at the clinic so i wouldn't be alone. I ♥ my boys!! (Even when they are being confusing and messing with my head.)

Well I should go get things accomplished and stop rambling into the ether. <333

I'm just going to copy the email I just sent my parents. I don't have the energy to say it all again.

My laptop is, at least for the moment, dead. Or I suppose you could say it's in a coma. Anyway, my computer cannot communicate with its hard drive and thus will not start up. No one seems to know exactly what's wrong - it could either be the hard drive is completely corrupted and just dead, or it could be that the connection is broken. Either way, it's probably going to be a bitch to get it to a repair place, and cost an arm and a leg, as I'm pretty sure the problem was caused by my dropping the laptop a few months ago and fucking up the hinge, and thus the connection to the hard drive. That's the working theory, anyway.

Kate is being very generous and has offered to basically share her computer with me for a while. Niall (one of the computer science guys) has a device by which you can directly connect to a hard drive outside of a computer and take information off it. We're going to try to see if we can rescue my lab report and other stuff that way. That will also help us figure out whether it's the hard drive or the connection that's the problem.

Basically it sucks. I also woke up sick this morning. I really hope that this time the bad things are going to stop at three.

/email to parents

I want to cry, I really do. This is the worst possible time for this to have happened. Tonight is the sci fi Annual General Meeting (read: free booze), and my head cold bedamned, I am getting trashed. I just. I need to get out of my head for a little while.

Needless to say, I'm going to be a bit out of touch for a while. I'd appreciate if you gave me a heads up to any particularly exciting shenanigans. Like, you know, if Gerard Way blinks or something. (Heh, kidding! ...sorta)

UGH.

Hahahahahahaha.

Um.

So it seems like when things in my life go to shit, they go to shit with a VENGEANCE. (You all remember October/November right?)

Today was sucky. I was tired, missing James, overwhelmed with work, and just sad in general. The elevator was broken when I got back to my apartment. I started crying when I got to my room. You know, that kind of day.

AND THEN MY COMPUTER DIED.

Oh yeah, life went there.

When I start it up, I get a grey screen with a flashing folder icon and a question mark. This apparently means that it is "failing to find the startup drives". Either my physical hard drive is fried (which means, bye bye everything on there. I have a lot backed up on my hard drive, but not the lab report I spent the last two days writing, fuck) or there's a software malfunction and they might be able to fix it by booting from an OS X disk. Of course I don't happen to have one of those, so I have to take it in tomorrow.

FUCK. ANYTHING ELSE YOU'D LIKE TO TRY, LIFE? SERIOUSLY, BRING IT ON.

I had planned this whole introspective post where I consider my headspace right now and how much I hate when I get negative, fatalistic and depressive, how much this month is going to SUCK HARDCORE, and how much I do not want to go home.

Now I just want to laugh until I cry.

My dad isn't answering his phone either. Meredith, if you read this, tell him to email me, or email me letting me know he's home or something, okay? at my starlight address.

UGH.

I'm laptopless AGAIN! Not on life, fer srs. It's that stupid charger - it started smelling like hot metal, and the plastic around the edges of the tear was getting browned and even smoking a little, um. So I went into the Apple Store to try to get a replacement. Good news: they'll supposedly give me a new one for free, because the problem wasn't my fault \o/ Bad news: they didn't have one in stock *mope* I have to call Apple Care and get one sent to me. Sigh! LIFE HARD.

Here, have a meme! This seems like a cool way to get some snippets of info about my dear flisties:
HI! You can call me ________. I'm from ______ and my current obsessions include __________. I'm sure I friended you because ________ but it could be because _________.
Fill it out, please! :D

I LOVE THIS SONG. *rocks out*

Did I manage to miss some shiny new bandom canon, or did we just have a slow day?

I HAVE MY BABY BACK! And by gosh, he is the prettiest prince in all the land! (Translation: MY COMPUTER IS FIXED YAYE.)

Basically, I'm in love with Apple. I took my computer in yesterday at 11 AM, they told me it would be about 3 days - then I get a call this MORNING at 10:30 saying hey, it's ready! :O So for various reasons I didn't get to go in until just now, but now I have my darling MacBook back in my greedy hands, and he's practically brand new! This is what they put in:
  • Brand new CD drive/burner
  • Brand new battery
  • Brand new keyboard and top casing, including trackpad and area where I rest my hands
  • Brand new "inverter board," which google tells me is what provides/controls the light on your monitor, which was flickering for me before

Total cost? ZERO. The warranty covers ALL of that, which would have cost a grand total of $638. *boggles*

I am so overwhelmingly satisfied and happy. YAY FOR APPLE!! \o/

(Icon: These are two of my favorite things :D)

I AM LAPTOPLESS! *woe and angst*

So my Macbook has a bunch of small things wrong with it. The screen flickers sometimes, the CD burner isn't working very well, the spacebar is cracked, etc. I brought it into the Apple store Genius Bar (hahaha, I love that) with a list of, I shit you not, seven things wrong, and the guy was like um. Next time you might want to bring it in when the FIRST thing goes wrong. And I was like um. Oops. And so it's going to be THREE DAYS and oh oh I want my baby *sniffles*

Luckily I realized last night that I might LOSE MY BABY for some period of time, so I finally bit the del.ici.ous bullet and tagged all my open bandom tabs. So I have plenty of fic saved up to entertain me. BUT STILL. I am sad.

Things that make me less sad:
-The BBC interview with Panic! at Reading. Um, Jon and Spencer, MARRIED MUCH? And that's all I'll say about that.
-All the Reading Panic! performance videos. They were ON, even if Brendon looked a little skittish at first because omgbottles. Middle of the Summer sounds FANTASTIC, and the facelift they did on I Constantly Thank God for Esteban is so so much fun!
-The new TAI TV episode, with Guy Ripley at Reading. All pretty hilarious, but then, OH THEN, RYAN ROSS. WITH HIS DOOFY GRIN AND A DRINK IN HIS HAND. Surrounded by The Academy Is...! William Beckett, you HORRIBLE INFLUENCE. I think there needs to be a sudden and prolific influx of William/Ryan, WHAT SAY YOU? That or Ryan/Mike Carden, cause did you SEE that interview from Decaydance Fest? Yeah. Yeah. ♥
-Basically, the entire fact of the Reading Festival's existence. EXCEPT FOR HOW JONWALKER WAS HIT WITH A BOTTLE, NOT ON. >:(
-Jared's little faaaace at the TCAs ♥
-[livejournal.com profile] airgiodslv's telepath AU. I haven't quite finished but. WOW. So insanely good. Next up: Wednesday Night Boys!

OH AND. I would like you all to meet my darling new wife, [livejournal.com profile] shiola_shiola. What's that you say? You didn't even know we knew each other? Well, I must admit, ours was a whirlwind romance. It was built on the foundation of Brendon Fucking Urie, then cemented by Buffy, Queer as Folk, Hayden Panettiere, and Muse. CLEARLY we are MFEO. *grins* Hi Steph, my dear! *waves* AND I have linked her to a Supernatural download community, so soon our love will be further enriched by Winchester squee, and honestly. That's the recipe for a successful marriage if I've ever heard of one! :D

I finally upgraded the memory on my laptop, YAY!! It's 1 GB instead of 512 MB now, and it simply FLIES! Before, Photoshop lagged so badly I could barely use it, but now it goes SO FAST and I can ICON AGAIN! WHEEEEE! *dances for joy* I spent last night making a header for Erin (so fast! omg! *revels*) and then I made some ICONS including THIS ONE because HELLO DEAN. *licks*

I am a happy happy camper *bounces up and down for joy*

Item the 1st: Went to New York City today for the Save Darfur rally! It was a gorgeous day, and lots of people showed up. Content wise it was very similar to the DC one last year, but it was more about showing up and showing our support than anything. Madeleine Albright was there, but we only caught the end of her speech. All around it was really cool to just be around all those people joined for this cause, but it's still kind of disheartening because there's so little we can do.

I took a few pictures, I'll put them up at some point, but not right now because it's 11:30 and the ride back took over 5 hours *facepalm* I'm very, very tired, and I still have to finish touching up this essay for tomorrow, and I have class at 8 AM. Siiiiigh.

Item the 2nd: There was this band there called Big & Rich, from Nashville, and they reminded me *so much* of Kane. Two guys playin guitars, one of them wearin a cowboy hat (he said he was from Texas!) and their music was the same kind of fun country. They played this song, "Love Train," that reminded me a lot of House Rules - fun and catchy :D I enjoyed them muchly. Their website is here: http://www.bigandrich.com/ I'm listening to the songs on their front page and they're really good!

Item the 3rd: Quotation found on [livejournal.com profile] beerbad's user info:

"For some reason, I just want things to be as gay as possible." - Ben Edlund

Yeah, guess who's a writer next season on Supernatural? That's right - Ben Edlund! Teehee! \o/

Item the 4th: I LOVE my Sammy. To tiny bits and pieces. His battery lasted through writing a whole essay and watching one episode each of House, Prison Break, and Supernatural! Hee. Definitely helped with the 8 hours I had to spend on the bus. And I am totally trying to convert Fei to Supernatural now, whee :D

That's it! Off to finish this essay then get some SLEEP.
exsequar: (SN iWinchesters! :D)
Sammy just nearly gave me a heart attack. First he froze on the screen saver and wouldn't come back no matter what I did, so I had to put him down with the power button. Then when I tried to start him back up (twice!) the little sleep light came on and then went off, and nothing else. But apparently roomie has the magic touch (or third time's the charm?) because when she pressed the button, Sammy woke up just fine. Sammy, do you like my roomie better than me? *pouts*

Seriously, if this thing breaks I will CRY.

I am painfully exhausted, but since I don't have any obligations tomorrow until 1 PM (YAY!) I'm going to watch an episode of House before going to bed. Yay house!
