one more miracle

It's amazing how much an extra hour of sleep can do. I slept 5 hours last night instead of 4, and I didn't come even close to drifting off in my 8 AM and 9 AM classes! \o/ In fact, chemistry was very interesting today, and I'm feeling confident with the material, which is, uhm, good since we have a test on Friday!

I've just gotten into this band, but in a very bizarre way. They're called Benefits of Being Paranoid, and heres_luck made the most stunning Serenity vid to their song New Frontier, and the song got stuck in my head so I went to their website and downloaded all their music (which they have up for free - go here and snag it, it's really good! Benefits of Being Paranoid) and so basically I've been playing their album on repeat for a few days. But the thing is that it's mostly background noise. None of the songs (except for that first one I knew, and maybe one other) have stuck out particularly - it's just this pleasant noise in the background at all times. I've listened to every song at least 10 times, but I still know barely any of the words. It's kind of weird! I enjoy the music a whole lot, but not in the usual singing along and dancing kind of way. Huh. If you're wondering what kind of music it is, it's basically alternative rock. I love the guy's voice. Good stuff! And also any Serenity/Firefly fans should totally go check out the music video, it's STUNNING and TRANSCENDANT and always gives me chills... guh. Go here: http://www.heresluck.net/

Awwwwww! I went trawling on youtube for some clips of baby!Jared from Gilmore Girls (not much luck, I'm afraid, though I did find the Candy Man clip and NNGH POSTCOITAL VOICE and dude he's totally Sam by that time) and I stumbled on a beautiful music video by accident. It's Rory/Dean, first season, set to Tori Amos's A Sorta Fairytale, and it's just elegant, simple, and lovely. I highly recommend it.

My dad had surgery today. My mom doesn't know too much, but it apparently went okay. I think he's still in the hospital. She's going to bring him home later today. He'll be in pain for a while :( I really wish I could be there with him... sigh. Apparently my siblings are fighting a lot too. I really don't miss that. I'm really not homesick at all, I'd just like to be with my dad.

On a happier note, I got two packages today... Firefly and Wraeththu! Most of you know about the first (Serenity is soon, squee!) but the second is a book series that the5thmarauder recommended to me, another fantasy series with serious gay content *smile* It's a huge book, almost 800 pages, but that's because it's a whole trilogy in one volume. So. I'm excited for that (no idea how long it will take me to read, with the little reading time I have) and I'm also glad to have Firefly. I also got an email that Lost has shipped, so that should be here in a day or two. Yay.

college is still easy, woohoo.

Ummm. I love you all, and I really miss talking to my girls as much as I used to :( We really got spoiled with the summer, and being online like, 24/7 and you guys staying up to ungodly hours in Germany and England so I could talk to you :P I miss youuuu. *huggles*

To give this post a purpose, I'll make a rec... I found the website of a great vidder last night. The first thing I saw of hers was a curt/Brian vid, definitely the best one I've ever seen (although there really aren't that many out there). Then I watched some Simon/River, a Simon/Mal (haha), some various Firefly, and a Faith & connor (kicking ass, not shippy) one. There's stuff from various fandoms, but it's principally Firefly. If you do like Velvet Goldmine I would recommend watching the c/b vid though. So enough of me prattling on, here's the link: Obsessive24
