Reasons why my Francisco is the best Francisco:

1) He has a 42 inch flat screen TV.
2) He loves Band of Brothers and is really excited to do a full rewatch with me.

:DDDDDD

Oh and, 3) he makes me laugh harder than almost anyone in the world. But, you know, I have priorities. *g*

We watched Currahee on his TV tonight. The hearts in my eyes were stupidly huge. Watching Currahee is still so delightful - all their faces popping up in the background! Doc Roe in the cafeteria! Talbert in all kinds of random places! Cudlitz playing basketball! Grant bringing Sink a beer! Shifty adorably trying to defend Sobel! Tipper cracking up at Luz! Lieb giving mohawk haircuts! Guarnere nomming on ice cream! Mama Lip leading the mutiny! NIX NIX NIX! WINTERS WINTERS WINTERS! Ugh iltheirfacessfm.

Before that we watched Hero with Steffen and Kate, because Steffen loves it crazy amounts. It was pretty! There was lots of swordfighting! Pretty cool stuff.

In other news, who knew an acoustic cover of Hey Ya could be so adorable? STARK SANDS WHAT IS YOUR FAAACE. I can HAS his face (and voice omg!) in JUUUNE! *grabbyhands*

:D

The vets of this journal will remember Jeremy, my (young, gorgeous) film prof from college whom I became actually really close friends with and who made senior year bearable. I talked about him far too much, and I do apologize about that, but he really was the glue keeping me together that year.

Anywho, I emailed him letting him know that I'll be back in town, and asking if he wanted to get together and catch up. He just replied and INVITED ME TO HIS HOUSE FOR DINNER! ♥____________♥ I am seriously so full of giddy glee! I get to meet his two month old baby boy! And his wife, whom I haven't met yet! And hang out and chat and just be with him again! He's just... one of those people who makes me feel infinitely comfortable and happy - you know? Those people don't come along very often. I'm really, really, really excited about this. Yay. :D

You know all those things that went shitty yesterday? Magically they all fixed themselves today. I RECEIVED MY BAND OF BROTHERS DVDs!!!! :D The lovely UPS delivery guy who I always say hi to brought them to me at work, and I could have kissed him! :D Then the experiment that took all day Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday until 9 PM worked GREAT and my boss is really happy! \\\o/// And THEN, one of my project group members actually said something that really helped me straighten out my thinking and stop panicking, and today I got a lot of productive research done and wrote up a respectable outline for our paper!

This yo yo is up for a moment. I'm predicting I'll actually manage to stay up for a while - tomorrow hang times with my Ann Arbor besties, then driving HOME and seeing daddy and mommy and lil sis, then high school teachers <333, then JEREMY OMGGG, then Rob and MICHELLLLLE and and!! It's going to be glorious.

Thanks for putting up with my shit, y'all. ♥

I love Twitter. What did we do before Twitter? Oh right, not have daily brushes with random celebrities. Huh! It's a brave new world.

In which Mark Rose is ridic and adorable and I heart his face:

And in which I LOVE JON HUERTAS SO MUCH HEARTS ARE POURING OUT OF MY EYES:

I mean, I know he just said thanks, but this is only the capper on his EXTREME AWESOME. I seriously love him so much I could burst. I really hope there's a Castle con some day, because him, Nathan, Seamus, and Stana in the same room as me? BE STILL MY HEART. I want someone to put together a montage of all of Poke's stuff in GenKill, because ugh Ilovehim.

You guys, my will is totally crumbling. A rewatch will happen, I can tell. With fast forwarding through the most epic incompetence I am sure. :P

Maybe I'll do some of that when I visit my best friend next week! During spring break I'm going home to see the parentals, then hopefully visiting JEREMY back at college - which, OMG, amazing, and also his wife just had a BAAABY who's 2 months old and I really want to meet him! And then I'm going to spend a couple days with Michelle, and we're going to get her through the rest of Band of Brothers (she's only seen through Carentan but can't watch without someone to hold her hand!) and then probably watch some Gen Kill which she is so completely ass over teakettle for that she can only make high pitched noises when Nate Fick is mentioned. :D

What on earth would I do without fandom, and more importantly YOU GUYS? I am not better by any means, but in this moment, right here, I am happy. Thank you. ♥ (And thanks Mark Rose and Jon Huertas, hahaha. <33)

Part A

Cinematography Part B )

I think that it's evident from the wide range of images I've selected here that Band of Brothers is an incredibly diverse visual experience, but it's always beautiful. The settings range from stark and cold to warm and vibrant, and the colors and filming style so well-reflect the atmosphere and mood of the corresponding place and events. The camera also really loves to find objects and fill the screen with them, make them larger than life - I particularly love how the typewriter is shot, and images like Doc Roe's bleeding finger in Bastogne. I love the contrast of images like Renee at the aid station - as a whole, the image is bleached and desolate, but the vividness of her blue scarf, the blood on her sleeves, the red aid station banner - it's just so striking. They also managed to find some truly breathtaking times of day to film - I think the pink, vaguely haunting sky over the battle in Holland is so exquisite, just to pull out one example. I know a lot of the series is beautiful because it's portraying beautiful men, but I hope I've reminded you what a masterpiece of film the entire series is, because I really think that's worth appreciating! ♥

To all the non-BoB fans on my flist - I'd say this is well worth checking out. It's all about light and shadow and color and shot composition and is really just a feast for the eyes. No prior knowledge necessary, and I think it would brighten your day (and/or convince you to give the series a try? :D). Minor warning for one cap with a bloodied face - the rest is a-okay.

So here we go again! I decided to do something different because people seemed to be interested in this idea - a focus on the beautiful way this series is shot. I hope you enjoy! Split into two parts because, um, there's 131 images. As usual, if you want anything in super duper hi-res, please ask! And feel free to use for icons or graphics or anything. I'm gonna hold off on the commentary for this one, cause it would really just be "Oooh, pretty!" and I think you all know that already. :)

PART B

Here we go again! I just want to say one thing about these spams - this really is about pulling together high quality still images, so it's not so much about recapping the whole story (which you all know backwards and frontwards, anyway). As such, large chunks of story are missing, particularly action sequences which just don't cap well (or at least don't benefit from HD). So I'm sorry if that throws you, but hopefully the pretty is worth it!

108 caps, 1000x625px. Ask if you want the highest-res version of any! (1440x900)

To love with all my heart. With all my heart. )

This concludes our second installment! It's late and I'm exhausted, but I really hope you guys are enjoying these. :)

You can download a zip of my Doc Roe caps (all 334 of them!) HERE.

Notes: For obvious reasons, Webster sneaks in here several times. I hope no one minds. ;) This is very large - 88 hi-res images. They're big thumbnails but you can click on them for the super duper hi res version. Please, feel free to use for graphics or anything you want. That's why they're here. :)

I've uploaded a zip of all my Liebgott caps: 212 of them, ~300 MB. DOWNLOAD HERE (right click, save as)

In German, Liebe means love. )

In all my rewatching of Band of Brothers, Liebgott has continually stood out to me. He's beautiful and entertaining, but he's also one of the most wrenching and painful characters in the whole series. I'm deeply impressed by (Scottish!) Ross McCall's performance. I hope I've managed to at least do him some justice with this catalog of his story. And I hope that you all enjoyed it. More to come. :)

Things wot are awesome:

  • This montage of Topher being... well, Topher:

  • Amy Gumenick is filming her lead guest role on Castle right now! For those who don't know, she played Mary on Supernatural and she's such a doll.A photo from Jon Huertas's Twitter )
  • This post from Jezebel: A Gallery of Extremely Handsome British Men. The post itself is kind of lacking, but the comments are gold. Damian Lewis! Ewan McGregor! Matthew Goode! David Tennant! Jamie Bamber! Yessss. ♥ (Obviously, Scotsmen are not British, though they do live in the United Kingdom. However, Irish I will not tolerate being called British. Just sayin!)
  • I just made this because it needed to be made. Every time I feel whiny about the Michigan winter weather, I visualize this: A very apt motivational poster )
  • STARK SANDS HAS A LEADING ROLE IN THE BROADWAY PRODUCTION OF AMERICAN IDIOT. :DDDDDDD I haven't even watched all of Gen Kill but already I LOVE Stark and his face. I was wishing that I could get to see American Idiot anyway, but now I'm talking about road tripping to NYC for this shit with my Chicago crew. MFY.
  • I get to see Gold Motel with [livejournal.com profile] angel726 this weekend!! :DDDDD
  • Tomorrow my darling Steffen is making dinner for me and Kate and Francisco. I'm SO excited. Kate's making dessert too! I love those three fools beyond all reason. I've realized that they perfectly parallel my three besties from Ireland - two boys and a gal - and I feel the same kind of comfort and joy around them. I am so grateful to have found that - within a 14 person program to boot! Every day I have to restrain the urge to just hug them and tell them how much I love them. ♥
  • I don't have to make a presentation for class tonight! WOOOOO! I have had to make two a week for the past three weeks and it got a little old. :P Instead I'm drinking whiskey and cranberry, putting together a Liebgott spam (keep an eye out for that!), and considering watching Life or Southland or GenKill or Friday Night Lights or just anything. (Maybe Band of Brothers? TELL ME YOU'RE SHOCKED.) Too much awesome TV! <33
  • Speaking of TV, my thoughts: The latest Bones was SO FRICKIN WONDERFUL. Angela and Hodgins! ♥____♥ White Collar has pretty much redeemed itself to me, thankfully, so I can just enjoy the OT3 pretty. Castle is still perfect all the goddamn time - ugh, SO MUCH LOVE. Friday Night Lights, while lacking a bit of the old resonance while they're trying to develop new characters, continues to be riveting and beautiful television. I love that Timmy's still around, as he and Coach and Tami pretty much make everything worth it. Dollhouse ends tomorrow - I'm heartbroken and resigned, but excited to see what Joss has whipped up. Leverage has been okay - the new gal is fine, but the latest two plots have seemed too hokey for me. I never say no to shirtless Hardison though. ♥ And I... still haven't watched last week's Supernatural. Maybe I should get on that, huh?

And that's that! There are some things that are un-awesome - what the fuck do I do about Dave? - but I'm going to let this post stand on its own and let you just roll around in the AWESOME. And don't forget - lotsa Lieb sooon! :D

How are you my dears? ♥

So I've been reading the oral account of Easy Company by Bill Guarnere and Babe Heffron ("Brothers in Battle, Best of Friends") and while the entire thing has been amazing and absolutely filled with gems of information that cast both the events and the men in a new light, this one piece absolutely stopped me in my tracks and begged to be shared. This is for [livejournal.com profile] bloodygoodgirl, who showed specific interest, but also pretty much anyone who's fond of manly yet schmoopy declarations of pretty intense emotions. It's a letter from Johnny Martin to Bill Guarnere when Bill was at the hospital in England after his leg got literally blown off in Bastogne. For anyone not familiar with the series, Bill is one tough sonofabitch, a real soldier and a wonderful sergeant who took fantastic care of his men and did his damnedest to get them all out alive. Johnny is also a complete badass sergeant dude, which is why the emotional nakedness of this letter is so very striking.

I never felt so hollow inside in all my life. )

Easy! ;____;
