Today, let's have a linkspam! Things that delight me and/or are awesome:

And not a link, but something that definitely delights me: I've decided to buy an iPhone 4!! :D I think, anyway. The new one is just SO gorgeous, I couldn't help but be seduced! /o\ I don't even have a smart phone yet - I've still got an old school flip phone, not even a qwerty keyboard. And I do love my phone, but I think it's time for me to get on board the smartphone revolution. I'm on Verizon, so I could be smarter and just get a Droid, but... I really really want an iPhone! /o\ I'm a total Machead, and always will be I think, so it only makes sense. DID I MENTION HOW GORGEOUS IT IS?! I have staaars in my eyyyyes, gah. Having to switch to AT&T sucks, yes, and it will be much more expensive every month, and probably push back my hope of buying a new car, BUT. iPhone! *hands* Also, I'll be able to video call Francisco, because he'll be getting an iPhone 4 as well, and ngl that will be amazing. (He's in Chicago visiting family right now and I miss him already.) A side effect of me making this decision has been that I WANT MY IPHONE *NOW*. I'm all antsy and keep looking at all the gorgeous pictures and stuff! WAAAANTS.

Hi flist. How are you? ♥

I have like a million things to post about, but somehow after *living* through exciting things, posting about them can feel like a job I have to do, so I'm going togive myself a bit of a breather before tackling it. In the meantime, let's talk about GLEE! )
exsequar: (Default)
Firstly: Joe Mazzello and Martin McCann are the CUTEST. Joe posted an adorable photo of him and Martin in makeup, complete with adorable caption. I commented, and Martin replied, essentially confirming that they have the most adorablest bromance ever! See???

(That's the caption for the photo at the top.) HEE I AM SO CHARMED. They are such total sweethearts. I hope Martin gets more lines to say later on!

LET'S TALK ABOUT TELEVISION!

I was pining all day to watch Justified ep 6, and I finally got to! Oh the hearts in my eyes! )

And I finally watched The Pacific episode 6. How fucked are you now? )

I also watched half of Glee this morning. Very entertaining! Also: JGROFF. ♥

Today was awesome for a few reasons. I had lunch with Leah, the other first year who got into Jason's lab. We rotated together last summer, and she's such a sweetheart. That was nice. Then I had a meeting with JASON, yay! He officially signed my papers! I'm officially in the lab! I AM SO THRILLED, WHEE. We had a conversation (well, mostly he talked) about Science and plans for my THESIS PROJECT and where he sees it going in the near future and it was all very fascinating, but wow I need to get my head back in the game! I felt kind of like an idiot. BUT. He understands that I haven't been thinking about this for months, so. I'm going to take next week off, do a lot of reading, and then start on MAY THIRD! YAY!

However, bad news: he did not accept Francisco. Or anyone else, for that matter. I'm... yeah. We (Francisco and I) talked after my meeting with Jason and it was... awkward, and hard. He still hasn't totally decided he's going to Florida, but it's really not looking good. Ugh. :( Not thinking about it not thinking about it. I need to sit with him and have a beer and just talk, I really do.

In lighter news, TONIGHT I WENT SPEED DATING. Lolz. It was mostly hilarious. We only got to talk to like half of the dudes who were there, which kind of sucked because we got a whole slew of nerdy engineer guys who were mostly okay to talk to, but generally not all that attractive. And afterwards we could see all these hot guys wandering around who we didn't get to meet! Lame. There were a few intriguing dudes in there so I checked several yes boxes. We'll see if anything comes of it! *hands* Me and the roomies and our new friend Anna went out for drinks afterward and generally had an awesome girly evening, so it was a win overall. :) I love my roomies SO MUCH oh my goodness. We got so lucky to find each other. ♥

So this is a really long post, and uh, I'm gonna stop. Nighty night!

Oh Glee.

Spoilery thoughts )

If you're a Buffy fan, I highly recommend you follow [livejournal.com profile] dailybtvs. The comm runner is currently on a S2 kick and it's just a marvelous burst of nostalgia every day. They were so YOUNG and DARLING. <3333

I've got the songs from last night's Glee, if anyone wants them! (Well, the ones I wanted to purchase - aka, not Finn's songs, sorry). I'm a little bummed that the show didn't exploit the concept a little more (say, by having Puck and Mercedes sing together, UM DEAD BY AWESOME UNFFF) but there's lots of Lea and Matthew showing off their pipes. There's also the last song from Wheels in there.

Ballads!

I popped by the Fox website for Glee by accident (trying to get to the IMDB page) and I spotted a blurb on the side that said "Lea, Cory, and Mercedes talk about Glee..." and I was like UM WHAT?! DO YOU MEAN AMBER????? JFC! Metric fuckton of fail there, Fox! *facepalm*

I hear there's a show about, idk, demon hunting on tonight, or something? (I'M SO EXCITED!!!!)

I've been slowly working my way through Freaks & Geeks, and I saw the episode Looks and Books last night. IT WAS SO GOOD!!! Probably my favorite one so far. I love the crises of confidence that both Lindsay and Sam go through, and I love their mini-journeys to find who they really should be - which is exactly who they were at the beginning of the episode, just confident and content with it. Lindsay's reunion with the burnouts was so sweet. While Nick is an adorable bumbler and I heart him, I think Daniel is my favorite - he just has these moments of exquisite vulnerability, and you can really see the genius of James Franco percolating within that rebellious, devil-may-care exterior. He's amazing.

I really like Kris Allen's album! It's charming, easy listening, and I'm fond. But I CAN'T WAIT to have my hands on Adam's album so I can listen to it over and over. IT'S SO SPARKLY. I AM DAZZLED.

But do you know what I'm REALLY stoked for?! THOSE CHEMICAL ROMANTICS! OMGGGGG. The AP cover is hilarious - they all look like they've got Merlin eyes, or something, it's super creepy. But THEY'RE ON A MAGAZINE COVER! OUR BOYS ARE BAAAAAACK! *flails and wriggles* Yaaaaaaay. :DDDD

I am posting instead of studying for an exam. Ain't it always the truth?

Well. I've been studying for most of today, but I don't really feel prepared. That's mostly because this class has been pretty poorly taught, rather unclear and kind of rambling all over the place without pauses to summarize important concepts. It's just drug mechanism after drug mechanism, and somehow we're supposed to pull general principles from that. Blah.

The exam is tomorrow at 1 PM. I only went into lab briefly today after class and came home at 12:30, so one would think that I've gotten loads of studying done! But because there's no problem sets or practice exam, it's nearly impossible to focus my studying. ARGH. I just want this to be over, because then I WILL HAS A [livejournal.com profile] candidlily, who is staying with me for the weekend, YAY! And on Saturday we're going to see THE USED and DRIVE A!!!!! with [livejournal.com profile] angel726, so I am SUPER STOKED for that. \o/

I've seen a few scarce SPN reaction posts, and from these I REALLY WANT TO SEE THE EPISODE OMG!!!!, but why are so many of you silent?! Sad. I was hoping for you to distract me with your squeeing while I was studying. :(

Some Glee thoughts: I used to be mostly ambivalent about Cory Monteith's voice, but now I'm fully on the side of STOP RUINING LEA MICHELE'S SONGS!!!!! I've had most of the Glee songs on repeat for a couple weeks now, and I love most of them (Take a Bow is still a favorite, as is Somebody to Love and, surprisingly, the Halo mashup), but it's gotten to the point where I cringe every time Finn cuts in to Rachel's triumphant, crystal clear warbling. Particularly on Somebody to Love and No Air. Why can't they let some of the other guys sing? Artie's got a great voice! And Kurt hasn't even gotten a chance yet, nor has Puck! Sigh. (And on that note, Puck was so charmingly douchey for an ep or two, but now he's basically a backup dancer. Learn to balance your characters, Glee!)

And speaking of characters, Glee is still really... kind of failing, in depth and consistency. Interestingly, the best character growth has been Quinn, in my opinion. She's still underhanded and sneaky, but she also has moments of startling vulnerability, and I find myself adoring her. Which is weird, since the idea of the "virgin cheerleader" was so deeply obnoxiously done in the pilot. But kudos to Dianna for that. Despite all of the fail, though, I find myself getting sucked in - I don't know, it's something about people expressing themselves ~WITH MUSIC~ that just yanks at my heartstrings. I rewatch a lot of the musical numbers... a lot, and subsequently some of the scenes right around them, and like. Idk! The kids obviously have a lot of heart, and it's not THEIR fault the writing is inconsistent and trying to find its comfortable middle ground between TOTALLY WACKY and actual drama. I am warming up to the idea that I might really care about this show eventually, but it's going to take a lot more development to get there. Luckily, with how big a hit it is, it will probably be around for a couple years and will get that chance.

One of the things I am most pleased with is that Rachel has been toned down/modulated, giving me more leeway to unabashedly LOVE THE SHIT OUT OF HER VOICE, oh my GOD. Her voice is like sweet, soothing love being made to my ears. Mmmmmmmmm. She's a great performer too, and while I do love the recording of a song, her physical performance on the show often brings TEARS to my eyes. She's also super stunning in a refreshingly unique way, and basically I ♥ Lea!!

And randomly, I kind of completely adore Brittany, the blonde Cheerio who is not Quinn. I noticed her background dancing from the very beginning - I think she's by far the best dancer of the girls (the contrast with Tina in Single Ladies was, I'm afraid, laughable) and my eyes always seem to be drawn to her. The actress also just seems to be a sweetheart, from the adorable stuff I catch her doing in the background of busy shots or during group numbers. I am particularly charmed by her and Puck holding hands during Somebody to Love. What! I have a totally random girlcrush, idek.

And I really wish Mr Shue would actually let Mercedes sing in a big performance number. She's AMAZING!!! And so spunky. ♥

Looking back at this list, I like that the female characters are the ones that seem strongest and most likeable to me (and this is speaking relatively, since everyone fails pretty hard quite often, if they have lines). That's at least one area I can give the show a sort of thumbs up on! (The massive, glaring exception is Terri and her sister. Can I just say: UGGGGHHHHHHH.)

And randomly: does anyone else find it kind of annoying that the show has ruined the simple word "glee"? I used to use it all the time (e.g., *wriggles with glee!*) but now it feels like people will think I'm making a pun about the show or something, when I'm totally not. SIGH! My life is SO VERY HARD!

Obviously this post HAD to be made. It was so much more important than studying. OBVIOUSLY!

:P

Comment here and tell me something you did recently that you're proud of and I comment and tell you that you're awesome and I'm proud of you and shit. And if you see anyone comment and you know them (or understand why they'd be proud of that thing), then you comment to them and tell them why they should be pleased with themselves.

Go go go! I want to know about how wonderful you've all been! START BRAGGING! :D

Just watched last night's Glee. I still don't know how I feel about it! It seems to me like every character is on a yoyo - one week Rachel is hateful and petty, the next she is generous and lovable. Mr. Shue swings between bizarrely selfish/deluded and the most human, likeable character. Finn is likewise very up and down (and am I the only one who doesn't like his voice? It's not... strong. It just is. *shrug*). (Emma's the only truly consistent (good) one, and I do adore her, but she's also very strange, in a rather cartoonish imitation of a very serious condition.) I still feel very much like I'm watching abstract constructions of weird black humor, not people. It's entertaining, sure - I laugh, and I love the music, but I am having such a hard time CARING. Ah well. I'll keep watching, because damn those musical numbers rock, and OH KURT.

Last week's Merlin was EEEEASILY the best of the season so far. See? Just needs moar Morgana! She was all lovely and gaspy and big eyed and porcelain and ugh I have such a massive girlcrush. She's, um, not the best actress in the world, yet she still makes me care for her a lot. Idk! Merlin was rather faily again, but as usual, heart in the right place, yadda yadda. They haven't made Arthur very sympathetic this season though have they? Hrm. I did love the episode though. I like when they go outside Camelot.

Winchesters were tonight! Can't wait to download tomorrow! Right now - Castle! :D

Oh, the reason I was so behind on TV was that I had my first grad school test this morning. I think it went quite well! I don't know how he's going to grade, and there were some things I was a little uncertain on, but overall I'm optimistic. Which is good, because apparently grad school grades severely affect your ability to apply for grants in the next few years. Wut. o.O Well, it's not like grades have ever been my problem (coughtwotimevaledictoriancough) so I'm not particularly worried. :) What I am worried about is this big NSF proposal I have to write in the next month - urgh. Scary!

Anywhoodle. YES. Tell me about your awesomeness!

Oh, TEEVEE. So much of you! I am watching fully seven shows this season, with the addition of Glee to my regular rotation (not without reservations! but it's there), which is far, far more than I've ever watched as they air. Most of my shows are light fluffy stuff, but I'm glad to have things like Dollhouse and Supernatural to balance them out. I can't wait until Friday Night Lights comes back. I want to cry every week!

Anywhoodle. Some thoughts on this week in television before I crash into bed.

But before I get started, I has a new layout!! :D --> [livejournal.com profile] exsequar I needed something Dollhouse-y, because after this season premiere I know I'm just gone. And it needed to be Topher. I happened to find a high-def screencap of this moment, which actually snatched my breath away when it first happened. Completely unexpected, and utterly moving. Topher is my most complete favorite, and to have his depth acknowledged in such a quiet, poignant way... yeah. ♥ And I took advantage of some of the gorgeous stylistic touches of the show itself, using the images of the five sleeping pods and the memories whisking away. I'm rather pleased with it! I've also changed up my journal title and what have you, but no one ever notices that stuff anyhow. :)

So here we go! There's space between each review so you don't have to be too worried about spoilers.

Dollhouse 2x01: A )

Big Bang Theory 3x01: A- )

Bones 5x02: B )

Merlin 2x01 and 2x02: B- and B+ )

Glee 1x02-1x04: moving towards a B or B+ )

Supernatural 5x03: C+/A- (Dean-Sam storylines) )

Okay, that is ENOUGH TV rambling! I also watched Castle, and it was mostly status quo, which is to say deeply adorable and wonderful. Now it is 40 minutes past when I promised myself I'd go to bed, so I am GOING! Goodnight! (And please talk to me about TV!!!)
exsequar: (Dollhouse - Echo reprogrammed)
THIS PICTURE MADE MY HEART SKIP A BEAT. That is so exquisitely beautiful I don't know how my heart can handle it. (SPOILERS for Dollhouse 2x01, casting and plot, but nothing new.)

SEPTEMBER 25 GET HERE FASTER.

I suppose this is an appropriate time to list the TV I'll be watching this fall? I'm REALLY EXCITED because there's a whole passel of shows that I've just gotten caught up with this year, and thus didn't know when they premiered last time, so it's all very exciting! I'll be watching:

Supernatural
Dollhouse
Castle
Big Bang Theory
Bones
Merlin

I know that's not a LOT, but it's plenty with my insane schedule, and I'm REALLY SUPER EXCITED for all of them!! I'm also going to give Glee a shot, but the premiere annoyed me in a lot of ways, so we'll see if it improves on that score. I do love Don't Stop Believin a whole lot!

YAY TEEVEE! This is such an exciting time of the year. :D New everything! Schools, jobs, homes, and TEEVEE. Yay. :)
